The world’s shortest airplane runway
wp7b9f386c_0f.jpg
Beautiful flowers in a tropical rain forest
The island has many hiking trails...this one went up from
a 1300 elevation to a 3100 mountain peak. The trail was
very Indiana Jones looking...glad I’m not on that
construction crew.
Our generous promoter for the concerts
in St. Maarten, Daunesh flew us to Saba for a night.
It has the world’s shortest airport runway -
you would literally go right off a cliff if your
brakes didn’t work. We relaxed in a little
cottage and had a candlelight dinner in a
French restaurant. We wandered through the
serene village and found a place with great
coffee...Julianna’s. We discovered that Saba
is famous for being one of the world’s 10 best
scuba diving sites...and has many hiking trails
through tropical rain forest. However, there is no
beach on the island - that’s right - a Caribbean
island with no beach...my California surfer wife
couldn’t believe it... However, in our short stay
we wandered the quaint little village, ate great
food, looked at some old churches and enjoyed
Saba’s quiet European charm after doing two
concerts in St. Maarten.
Dutch spelling...I would not want to be taking
spelling tests as a kid!

The view from our breakfast spot
of French coffee at Julianna’s. A
volcanic mountain and sweeping
palms surrounded by lush, tropical
landscape.

Wuthering Heights, move over...Saba’s rocky cliffs.
A lovely Catholic church...
Narrow streets...golf-cart sized cars...
