Soul of the Wanderer
John Ford Coley
Across the wasted wilderness, There travels in the night
Life yet unknown to us, But guided by its sight.
While we dangle on the edges, Of a different time for man
Knowing that the future, Has been realized and is at hand
And those that see the images, Of each days’ strengthened realms
Seek the life invisible, Subdued by hearts of man
Chased by quest of knowledge, For who and what we are
The wanderer stands gazing, Out beyond the stars
(CHORUS)
And in testing our courage we play with our fright
Searching for truth, but afraid of the light
We are lovers of glory, in spite of the fight
We go on
Waiting for the hour, Where our soul is revealed
Practicing our patience, If our ills are to be healed
Chasing very eagerly, For what we can’t attain
Facing shadows in our flight, And still ourselves remain
Choosing only what is seen, In view of what is known
Scattered by the winds of trials,
We lose the hearts we’ve sown Hedging at the hour,
That no one can put back We feast upon the emptiness,
To fill the needs we lack

(CHORUS REPEAT)
The soul of the wanderer, And dreamer must prevail
Decisions that are made, Can be both heavenly or hell
Seldom does it matter, Who is wrong or who is right
We still answer to the Angel, From unapproachable heights
(CHORUS REPEAT)
And in testing our courage we play with our fright
Searching for truth we stray far from the light
(but avoiding the light)
We are lovers of glory, in love with the fight
